Learn More about LAP-BAND® Results
Board certified general surgeon Dr. Matthew St. Laurent’s Houston-area patients have achieved tremendous results over the years after undergoing LAP-BAND® surgery. The dramatic weight loss that’s possible can produce life-changing results in a number of ways.
The LAP-BAND® is an advanced gastric banding system that helps you gradually lose and control your weight by reducing the amount of food that your stomach can hold at one time. It is the safest, simplest and least traumatic of all weight-loss surgeries.

What Results Can I Expect from LAP-BAND® Surgery?
A LAP-BAND® limits the amount of food you can eat at one time without feeling full. After having your LAP-BAND® placed, you will consume smaller portions, which in turn will help you lose weight. Your weight loss will not happen suddenly but instead will occur gradually over a period of several months. This is important, as sudden, drastic weight loss is not only unhealthy, but increases the odds of gaining it back.
Individual results do vary; however, many of our patients have successfully lost over 100 pounds after undergoing the LAP-BAND® procedure. A good number of them have been able to keep it off long term—so many, in fact, that many of our patients determine they no longer need their LAP-BAND® and elect to have it removed.
As a result of losing weight, you could possibly enjoy other health benefits. Some of the conditions that may improve or be eliminated altogether include the following:
- Sleep apnea
- High cholesterol
- Improved energy
Many patients find they need fewer medications once they reach their targeted weight. Some have even been able to stop taking medication altogether. The number and type of medications you need after surgery will depend on the diet and lifestyle changes you make, in addition to genetics.
