Amber Baker, RN, DNP, NP-C – Nurse Practitioner
I received my Bachelors of Science in Exercise and Sport Science in 1997; later I received my Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2000. I earned both degrees attending the University of Utah. I am active in the professional organizations of which I have a membership. I have written articles for “Bariatrics Today” and “Obesity Help” regarding follow-up care after bariatric surgery. I have achieved additional national certifications including Health and Fitness Instructor (ACSM), Neonatal Resuscitation (AHA), International Certified Childbirth Educator (ICEA) and Bariatric Nursing (ASMBS). I was an item writer for the Certified Bariatric Nurse certification test for two years through ASMBS. I lead the initiative for my center in Utah to obtain the Bariatric Center of Excellence Certification in 2008. I obtained my Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree from the University of Utah in 2012. I am board certified and a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a member of American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. I strive to treat my clients with empathy, respect, and knowledge. I believe that each individual is of worth and has a unique perspective. I will employ patience and understanding to optimally meet the needs of each person. I believe in continuing education and maintain current standards of practice through ongoing participation in research, evaluation of current practices and educational opportunities.
I recently moved to Houston from Utah, relocating from a busy bariatric practice there where I was employed for over 9 years. I love Houston sunshine! Hot, humid summers are better than six months of cold, ice, and snow! I have three daughters that are the joy of my life! When I am not at the office, I am usually taking them to a music or dance lesson. I have been married to my husband and best friend for almost 20 years, and we enjoy spending time together with our family, traveling. When I am not at work or serving as my children’s taxi service, I enjoy crafting with my children, getting massages, training for triathlons, going to Zumba, participating in my church activities, and sleeping.
I am also a bariatric patient. I had successful LAP-BAND® surgery in 2006. I lost 85 lbs. and have been able to maintain a normal BMI since surgery. I consider myself blessed to work with knowledgeable and dynamic coworkers and patients who inspire me every day to be better! I love working with my patients and I love what I do.
Michelle Ott MS, RD, CDE, LD – Dietitian
Michelle received her Bachelor degree in nutrition at Texas A & M University and her Master’s degree in nutrition at Texas Women’s University. In 1999, Michelle completed the requirements to become a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).
Growing up in an athletic family sparked her interest in both sports and nutrition. As a varsity cross country runner and soccer player in high school, a member of the soccer team at Texas A&M, she has completed 6 marathons and five MS150’s.
Michelle is passionate about nutrition and wellness and takes a client-centered approach to both. She believes that good nutrition is the foundation for optimal health. Her desire is to inspire healthy eating habits and lifestyle changes that promote optimal health, prevent disease, and enhance the overall quality of life, while recognizing and adjusting to individual needs and preferences.
Christina Marcucci, MS, RD, LD – Dietitian
Christina is a registered and licensed dietitian who specializes in obesity, bariatric surgery and weight management. She received a Bachelors of Science Degree from The University of Houston, a Master’s Degree from Texas Woman’s University in Houston’s very own Medical Center and several Certificates of Completion in Level 1 & 2 Adult Weight Management. At the start of her career Christina worked as a renal dietitian but quickly found her passion for bariatrics. In 2006, after successfully assisting in the implementation and growth of the Out Patient Nutrition Clinic and Bariatric Center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, Christina joined Dr. Matthew St. Laurent’s practice. Over the years she has assisted in the development and ongoing support of his bariatric program as well as collaborating regularly with the therapist to facilitate monthly support group meetings. The only thing she loves doing more than her job is spending time with her family.
Christina has been married since 1999 and has two wonderful children. For fun she loves to exercise but admits it is more than just a hobby. You can be assured this dietitian practices what she preaches and often starts her workday in the gym before the crack of dawn. She believes that true success is not met with meal plans but instead on education, direction, support and compassion.
“At the end of the day it is about the patient. Our approach to weight loss is always patient-centered and unique to their needs, strengths and goals. Each one of us is here because we love what we do”
