Struggling with Menopause Symptoms? Hormone Replacement Therapy Can Help

Do you struggle with unpleasant menopause symptoms? Are you enduring hot flashes and night sweats? Have you put on weight? Is vaginal dryness interfering with your enjoyment of sex?

If so, you might benefit from hormone replacement therapy (HRT). HRT replaces the hormones that your ovaries no longer produce.

Here at Northwest EndoSurgical in Houston, Dr. Matthew St. Laurent uses bioidentical hormones to provide patients with a safe, effective way to relieve menopause symptoms

Menopause matters

Menopause is the time in a woman’s life when her ovaries no longer release eggs and her periods stop. Many changes occur in a woman’s body before and during menopause. Levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone fluctuate, eventually going down permanently.

Changing hormone levels can lead to a long list of potential symptoms, including:

HRT relieves menopausal symptoms by restoring hormone levels.

A natural replacement

Dr. St. Laurent chooses to use bioidentical hormones for HRT, because he believes they’re safer than other HRT preparations. Bioidentical hormones are chemically identical to the hormones produced by your body. Unlike synthetic hormones, bioidentical hormones come from natural plant and animal sources.

Here at Northwest EndoSurgical, Dr. St. Laurent uses what’s known as “pellet therapy” for bioidentical HRT. Pellet therapy focuses on creating precisely the right blend of estrogens and may also include small amounts of testosterone.

Hormones are compressed into a tiny pellet that’s smaller than a grain of rice. Dr. St. Laurent inserts the pellet under your skin during a simple in-office procedure. Over the course of 3-5 months, the pellet releases hormones into your body at a constant, even level.

After all the hormones have been released, Dr. St. Laurent inserts a new pellet. No follow-up visits are required between treatments.

Is HRT for you?

Not every woman should use HRT. For example, it’s not recommended for women with certain types of cancer, a risk of stroke or heart attack, blood clots, liver disease, or vaginal bleeding. Before you start HRT, Dr. St. Laurent talks with you to determine whether it’s safe for you.

If you’re struggling with annoying menopause symptoms, Dr. St. Laurent can work with you to determine whether HRT can help you. To learn more, call our office or book an appointment online today.
