Losing Those Last Stubborn Pounds with CoolSculptingⓇ

Losing Those Last Stubborn Pounds with CoolSculptingⓇ

If you’ve worked hard to lose weight, either through diet, exercise, surgery, or a combination of approaches, you know that dropping those last few stubborn pounds that stand between you and your goal can pose a real challenge.

Sometimes shedding those final pounds can seem nearly impossible no matter how carefully you eat or how much you exercise. When that’s the case, an advanced body-sculpting treatment known as CoolSculpting can help.

Dr. Matthew St. Laurent and our team at Northwest EndoSurgical here in the Houston area have extensive training and experience with CoolSculpting. Here’s what we’d like you to know about using this breakthrough treatment to lose those last few stubborn pounds.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a nonsurgical procedure that eliminates fat cells through a safe, controlled freezing process. It succeeds best on fat that resists reduction through diet and exercise. CoolSculpting works by using cold that targets fat cells. After receiving treatment, a number of the targeted fat cells die and are eliminated from your body.

CoolSculpting is safe and effective. It can reduce fat without causing any damage to the skin or other tissues in the treated area. You lose fat without scars or incision marks.

How CoolSculpting differs from weight loss

The results you receive from CoolSculpting vary somewhat from those that occur from diet or exercise. Here’s why. The number of fat cells in your body is fixed during your teen years. Although losing or gaining weight usually impacts the size of your fat cells, it doesn’t typically affect the number of fat cells in your body.

For that reason, losing weight may not be the best way to drop your last few extra pounds. Even though fat cells are smaller, they’re still there no matter what your weight.

With CoolSculpting, however, you actually reduce the number of fat cells in your body. The cooling treatment in the targeted area actually causes fat cells to wither and die.

The CoolSculpting process can reduce the number of fat cells in treated areas by about 20-25%.

What to expect

During your consultation visit, you meet with Dr. St. Laurent to discuss your weight goals and your health history. If you and Dr. St. Laurent agree that CoolSculpting is right for you, you’ll schedule a treatment appointment.

During your treatment, Dr. St. Laurent places a gel pad and applicator on the treatment area. The CoolSculpting applicator delivers controlled cooling to the targeted fat. You can relax, rest, read, check your email, or even take a nap during your session.

CoolSculpting treatments last about 35-60 minutes each, although the length of your session varies depending on the number of areas being treated during each visit.

As your treatment begins, you feel a few minutes of intense cold that soon dissipates as the area goes numb. After the treatment, you may feel some tingling as the area is massaged for 2-3 minutes. Patients are usually able to return to normal activities following an appointment.
