How CoolSculpting Can Help Tone Trouble Areas

CoolSculpting, northwest endosurgical, Dr. Matthew St. Laurent

When you can’t manage to lose stubborn pockets of fat through diet and exercise, an advanced body sculpting treatment known as CoolSculpting can help. CoolSculpting is a noninvasive, nonsurgical, pain-free fat-freezing treatment that safely removes excess fat without surgery or other invasive procedures.

If you’d like to contour your physique, Dr. Matthew St. Laurent and his team at Northwest EndoSurgical in the Houston area would like to share the following information about CoolSculpting.

Freezing excess fat

CoolSculpting uses cold to reduce fat. When applied to fat cells, cold temperatures freeze the cells and cause them to wither and eventually disappear.

Because the procedure targets only your fat cells, healthy skin cells remain without damage. And because CoolSculpting is a noninvasive, nonsurgical process, it uses no needles or suction hoses and causes no bleeding or scarring.

CoolSculpting has received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in areas such as the belly, inner thighs, outer thighs, buttocks, upper arms, chin, and back. It’s especially helpful for areas that stubbornly resist fat reduction through exercise and weight loss, such as belly fat, love handles, bra fat, and chin fat.

How it works

If you decide you’d like to have CoolSculpting, Dr. St. Laurent meets with you to ensure that you’re a good candidate for the procedure. Other than that, you don’t have to do anything to prepare.

When you have CoolSculpting, Dr. St. Laurent uses an applicator device to introduce cold to the contouring area. The applicator delivers precisely controlled cooling that causes fat cells to crystalize. Once they’re crystallized, your body flushes them away during the weeks following your procedure.

CoolSculpting causes little pain or discomfort and provides excellent results. During your procedure you can read, listen to music, work on your laptop computer, or just relax. A CoolSculpting appointment requires about one hour to treat each target area.

After your treatment

Some people experience slight side effects after having a CoolSculpting treatment. These may include minor bruising, redness, swelling, tingling, stinging, tenderness, or skin sensitivity. Side effects typically last only a short time, disappearing within a few days or weeks.

After your treatment, you can typically return to your usual activities, including exercise, right away.

Fat freezing vs. weight loss

People often turn to CoolSculpting when weight loss and exercise fail to eliminate specific pockets of stubborn fat.

Adults have a fixed number of fat cells. When you lose weight, fat cells get smaller. But no matter how much weight you lose, that number of fat cells generally stays steady.

Because CoolSculpting causes fat cells to disappear, it can bring about results that weight loss cannot. The CoolSculpting fat-freezing procedure actually reduces the number of fat cells in treated areas by about 20-25%.

Is CoolSculpting right for you?

CoolSculpting works for both men and women. And it succeeds best for people who have pockets of unwanted fat, rather than large amounts of fat throughout their bodies. For this reason, Dr. St. Laurent does not typically recommend it for for people who are obese. CoolSculpting offers a way to reduce fat in certain areas, but it’s not considered a weight-loss strategy.
